Mary Wignall Strachan graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2025 and has since exhibited work throughout the UK and Europe, most recently with Gallerie Marzee in The Netherlands. Recently she has also received a bronze award from the prestigious Goldsmiths Craft and Design Council awards for pieces from the graduate collection.
About Me
A recent graduate of the Glasgow School of Art. Wignall Strachan’s collection “Rooted in Chaos” represents the complexities of human interaction and the chaos of communication.
Using a mixture of traditional silversmithing techniques and developing new ideas by experimenting with various materials, she focused on hair and enamel using the process of Raku, an instant and intuitive process.
Recognising the balance achievable between these experiments and her ideas, this collection is representative of fragility of materials and permanence of creative designs. She was recently awarded the Emerging Maker Award by the Guild of Enamellers for innovative use of materials and a bronze award for her enamelling from the Craft and Design Council awards.
